The conference "Ending Gender-Based Violence"

23/11/2023

Yana Toom invites you to the upcoming conference "Ending Gender-Based Violence", which will take place on Monday, November 27, at the Hestia Hotel Europa. The conference is organized by the Estonian Office of MEP Yana Toom and the political group Renew Europe. You will find the conference program below.

The purpose of the conference is to highlight the debate surrounding the fight against gender-based violence and identify obstacles to this fight. Violence against women is one of the worst problems in both Estonia and the EU as a whole: every day in Europe at least two women are killed by partners or family members. The most important tools to combat such violence are the Istanbul Convention and the Gender-Based Violence Directive. The European Parliament calls for the implementation of Istanbul Convention and recognition of rape and sexual assault as criminal offences. However, in a number of countries, including Estonia, movement in this direction faces obstacles.

Experts and activists in the fight against violence against women will take part in the discussion. We would be grateful if you could contribute to this discussion. You can register to participate in the conference here:
